Since long ago, Vietnamese people have considered the script “Longevity” as an important symbol of a long, healthy life. This script can be seen on many decorative objects, made of metal, wood, stone, gem and ceramic, flower vases, interior decorative items, jewellery and costumes, especially the costumes of the emperor and royal family members.
At present, the “Longevity” script is used as a decorative item in the houses designed in Oriental style. It is stylized in various ways, not necessarily kept in Chinese script but can be imitated with decorative patterns.

The stylized script in the shape of a square or a circle with symmetric straight and curved lines yields a high aesthetic effect, especially when it is enlarged on the wall or window. The stylized script with sophisticated curves in the shape of clouds, flowers and leaves are more suitable to sculptured and engraved patterns on wood or bronze. Small items, such as wall lamps, curtain hangers or pillow cases are also decorated with the “Longevity” script.

According to Vietnamese people, the symbol of the “Longevity” script can protect people from sudden accidents and create energy, leading to good health.
