The security service fee for Tet has increased by two or three folds compared to normal. Long Hai Security has stopped receiving orders for Tet days, though Tet will only come in one week. 

Tet days will be the time when many families will be away for traveling, returning to home villages, while offices will have no staff. The demand for using the security service, therefore, has been surging, especially in recent days when companies have finished planning the holiday schedule.  

The Long Hai Company has stopped signing contracts on providing security services one week before Tet because of the overly high demand from people. The demand for the service keeps rising despite the high service fee of VND 2 million a day. 

According to Le My Dung from the Marketing Division of the Long Hai Company, the expenses on every security guard on Tet days may reach between VND 70-80,000 per hour, or VND 1.7-2 million per day. The fee may fluctuate, depending on the real situation of the sites which are 1.5-2 times higher than normal. 

Explaining the jump in the fee, Dung said that under the current Labour Law, the pay for staff on Tet, and holidays must be three times higher than regular days. Therefore, the company has to raise the service fee, as most of the income is used to pay employees. However, if comparing with the fee of last year, this year’s service fee represents the 10% increase only. 

The demand for security service in HCM City is as high as in Hanoi. Well known security service providers like Tay Son, Long Hai and Dat Vo said that they have been overloaded with orders for Tet days. 

Tran Van Huong, an employee of Dat Vo Company, said that his company has gotten many more contracts than last year. Most of the contracts focus on the activities to protect restaurants and companies for five to ten days. 

Huong said that the service becomes expensive on year-end and Tet days because of the high complexity and high risks of the activities at year end. Besides, not every employee is ready to work on Tet days. 

Phuong, the Director of a real estate company, said that she was busy all last year; therefore, she has decided to give herself several free days on Tet when she will travel to other cities. 

Phuong said that she has to pay VND 5 million for using the security service for three days, which is equal to a half of the sum of money she has spent on the tour. 

Phuong said that she has to use the security service because she has no other choice. The charwoman will return home on Tet days, while Phuong cannot ask her parents to take care for her home because they are too old to do so. 

Si, the owner of a small printing workshop in Ba Dinh district in Hanoi said that his staff has returned home already. Therefore, he has to rely on the security service. Si said he has to spend some VND 20 million to hire security guards for two weeks. However, Si said he would rather to spend VND 20 million than leaving the workshop with the equipments worth several hundreds millions VND idle.
