Global hotel operator InterContinental Hotels Group will open its first property under the renowned lodging brand Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts in Vietnam at a commercial complex in Hanoi by 2013.

The 332-room Holiday Inn Hotel will be part of the MB Land Tower to be built early next year at 6-8 Chua Boc Street in the capital city, according to the project’s developer, the MB Land Joint Stock Company.

The project is aimed at filling up the supply shortage of high-end hotel rooms and luxury shopping venues in Hanoi.

Covering an area of 9.4 square kilometers, the 105 meter-tall tower includes three basements, the five-star Holiday Inn Hotel, shopping venues and grade A office space.

The 21-floor building, with a total budget of VND1.12 trillion (US$61.37 million), is expected to come online by 2013.

A metro station will also be built in front of the tower to help ease traffic congestion on Chua Boc Street, known as a bustling shopping center in Hanoi, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Property developer MB Land is owned by the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank and the Service Flight Corporation of Vietnam.

More than 1,500 Holiday Inn facilities serve 100 million guests across the globe every year.

IHG, which has 4,400 hotels across 100 countries and territories, opened its first property, the InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2007.

The U.K.-based group also launched its second hotel in the country at the Kumho Asiana Plaza complex in Ho Chi Minh City downtown in September this year.
